Hacking pockets and ticket pocket are very popular on this forum for their britishness and i would like to know in which circumstances you do picture them on a suit...
Concerning Hacking pockets ,do they look better on textured jackets or sportcoats or are they also acceptable on suitings?
Are ticket pockets are overused in today tailoring?

They do seem to be everywhere at the moment, even really, really cheap RTW you see ticket pockets.

I quite like them, although I think they do suit a more casual garment than a formal one, saw a dj with a ticket pocket recently, wasn't a good idea.

I like the hacking pockets for variety, but not really a fan of ticket pockets. They remind of cargo pant pockets for jackets - really an unnecessary, additional pocket that is asymmetrical and sort of throws off the look of a jacket. Maybe it just needs to grow on me.

Las - are you originally from the UK?

I live in England for the last 12 years and my sartorial experiences and wardrobe are a cross between Italian ,French and English products..
I 'm just surprised how popular hacking pockets are with the American market...

I like ticket pockets. They're quite practical. I wish the patch ticket pocket would get some purchase around these parts.

I agree, though I have been ordering without lately. I might resume getting them on casual suits, though my last order, a houndstooth, was without (but it was also one-button, so I ticket pocket would have been misplaced).

The idea of patch ticket pockets is nice, but they really are less practical.

Ticket pockets went out of RTW fashion two years ago.

They are now safe again for bespoke clothes that have an English sensibility.

But ask yourself: do you use the pocket? If not, you do not need it.

I have used mine. Oddly, to put tickets in.

The old story is that "ticket" in this case refers to coins. Sometimes, you would have to pay a toll crossing grounds for a hunt. I've only done drag hunts, and we didn't need coins.

Something actually made for opera tickets is the little pocket on a cummberbund.

Yeah. We were going to the symphony on a non-black tie night. A cummberbund would have looked silly with my suit.
