They have no need to take side bids and I'm 99% sure that this is not what happened. Simple mistake as far as we all know. Better to end an auction early when, for instance, the shoes aren't even available.

Fair enough. GVH is not a high-end brick and mortar store like NM, etc., so one must manage his expectations. And yes, I'd hate to have won the item only to have the proverbial rug pulled out from under me.

Having said that, it seems that GVH has managed to carve out a unique niche among selective online buyers, many of whom can be found on this forum.

To me, service is huge, no matter from whom you are buying. As the high bidder on a removed item, I would've appreciated a quick email, which would have taken all of 15 seconds. Not only would would that have been providing good service - especially to someone currently bidding on other GVH items - but it would have been greatly appreciated, particularly given the "loss" of some nice shoes I was looking forward to wearing some day!

(Mostly, I'm just bitter that I won't get those shoes!)

Same thing happened to me, on a pair of size 10.5. We were probably bidding on the same shoe.

Yes billiebob, we were bidding on the same shoe.

I still think all bidders should be sent some kind of apology (they are all potential future customers, besides that service is a big thing to me). This is very easy to realize, even with hundreds of bidders and thousands of shoes.

Such things can be automatized nowadays by generating and sending a standard message to the bidders, it takes only a few seconds.

Anyway I slept well tonight and I am feeling good again haha.

i was gonna bid as well. probably to $450 or $500. I really could use a pair of black oxfords - I only have 1, and it is completely unused.

yeah. nothing like having 2 unused oxfords.

but actually, my black oxfords (from AE) are unused because i'm not 100% sold on the fit. I think it shows too much of a gap between the laces, and I think the EG's might have more instep room.
