Guides for interior decoration?

I'd like to design the interiors of my new apartment myself, but I don't have much knowledge to go on other than personal tastes. Can anybody recommend any resources for learning about the more technical aspects of interior design?

Mariette Himez Gomez (part of Architectural Digest 100 Top Designers)

She has published some books. Her work is not extreme, but she has a nice balance between new /old. You may not like her work, or style but she presents solutions grounded on fundamentals and a wide range of projects for clients.

Got a book by her recently at the public library.
