Gift tie for "main street" dad?

I'm looking to buy a nice tie for my dad. He's in his 60's and appreciates what I would call classic style, think nice wool suits. Unfortunately the place where he used to buy his nice suits went out of business in the 1980's.... Anyways that's beside the point. My question is, where can I go in NYC to buy a nice quality tie. I bought charvet and canali ties for myself that I liked recently. My dad's business is on "main street" so he'd be more Brooks Brothers than Hermes if you catch my drift.

Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated. I think under $200 is my price range.

To be honest, I never give ties as gifts. Personal taste plays a larger role than in most other items of apparel, and besides, you would need to know the man's wardrobe to know what he already has and what, if anything, he owns which might go with a particular tie.

The one exception might be to get him a gift certificate for a custom tie. I don't know if Sam Hober offers gift certificates, but there might be a way to arrange one.

E-mail them and explain your situation. They're great people, and a pleasure to work with. For as little as $100 your father would get a tie made exactly to his measurements, and even better, he'd get the experience of working with Hober to determine what would work best for him.

Cheers,

Ac
