Every now and then I'll layer my blacks - bring me back to my high school goth days. This is from a few years ago - today I'd probably layer a vest and do a grenadine tie rather than the satin. I don't own a proper black suit at the moment, though. Hard to capture in a bathroom selfie, but there's black oxfords down there.

I don't think that enforcing people's colour combos would result in more entries. There's a nice variety of takes on the theme now and users will vote for their preferences.
