Just bought a French Press a few weeks ago and am enjoying breaking it in with a lb of pure Kona from Trader Joes. Expensive coffee, but mmm so good. Nice not having to buy filters.

this underlines the philosophical differences between my in-laws and myself. They're frequently looking over their shoulders, while I don't - unless I have good reason: death threats, hostile people, the ides of March...that sort of thing.

Using a very dark French roast. Tomorrow I will get some Kona and also some lighter stuff.

This is so strong and delicious. Having another big mug.

You can make even the most innocent phrases sound gay.

Tell you what? Use Peet's Sulawesi-Kalosi if you want an incredibly earthy flavor. Remember to grind fresh beans (secret - if you order from them, the beans are actually fresher than the stuff you get at their stores). I am not a big fan of most South American beans, which I find overly bright and citrusy, but your mileage my vary.

French Press is pretty good. I prefer stove top espresso from a Bialetti Moka express. You can even get some decent crema if you do it right.

With FP keep the grinds on the course side, and don't use boiling water (wait 15-30 after it boils),

Anyone who treats french press purely as a step on the way to good coffee is being a little ignorant. I've been an avid coffee connoisseur a lot longer than I've been a style guy, but I recently bought a french press out of nostalgia, and god damn it's good. It's not a ristretto or a macchiato, but sometimes I don't want an espresso or stovetop espresso, sometimes I want something stable, steaming and strong, with enough oil. Feels good man.

i'm going to do a two day blitz in paris next weekend and will duly be stopping at cafeotheque for their 'jacu bird special' from brazil - each bean has been digested by the bird of same name. mwahahaha. going to pick up a bottle of their coffeebean oil too.
