Was in DC and stopped by Farney's. This was their limited edition for the year. It's the cherry blossoms and Treasury Department. Not really my style (could do without the moon/stars or make it not black)

but I like it enough.

From Tokyo.

For a little over 8k you also get the ink thrown in.

These are like the deluxe of the deluxe pens. Honestly they're more object d'arts than functional pens (or so it would seem to me) but if you can afford them I don't think you really care, anyway.

Here's my collection of pens. I think I have one or two more laying around somewhere (including a red aurora which is missing a barrel and I've showed photos of previously). The Montblanc, even with a diamond in the cap, is a pretty crumby nib. Not going to lie, I reach for it the least often. It and the blue visconti one have the same ink (Athena Blue) and the visconti is smoooooooth as all get out. All kinds of feed problems with the Montblanc and it's quite rough.

Oh, speaking of inks....the two from kingdom note on the left are great. I can't stop using them. I wouldn't have bought the yellow Sailor ink if it wasn't 50% for like 7 bucks when I was in Tokyo. Haven't inked it up into anything yet. It is highly unlikely I will ever use all this ink before I die, even if I continue my studies and do the crosswords three times a week.

Just acquired a Pilot Metropolitan, F nib. First Pilot, as I generally stick with Diplomats. Surprised at how nice it is for the price point ($15). Came with a converter, too.

I would like to get a decent quality starter fountain pen and black ink. Any suggestions? While I am not a collector I am very particular about the pen I use. It has to be a Pilot Precise liquid ink rollerball pen with the 0.7 mm ball in the tip. I will not even write without this model pen. I carry them everywhere with me.

Please consider the above info if you are suggesting a fountain pen that I may be interested in.

Never hurts to play around with a Twisbi Eco. Go for extra fine.

Anyway, I have a few pens but I mostly just use my Pilot Custom 823. I’ll use the Twisbi Eco for marking, everything just sits in the pen case because I’m too lazy. Maybe I’ll open it up. A few pilots and a couple of other assorted brands.

Stick with any of the Pilot fountain pens. But get something other than black. Such a boring color and even worse when this hobby allows you to have a full rainbow at your disposal.

Thank you for taking the time to suggest an ink brand that is versatile. That is exactly what I was looking for.

Kind Regards

I will be the first to tell you, I know nothing about fountain pens, but the second pen from the top is absolutely beautiful. I never really thought of a pen as anything more than an instrument to do a job, but as I reflected on what I just said I suddenly realized that writing consumes more of my time than any job I do... Perhaps its time to invest in the tools I use most often.

Serious pen envy. I love fountain pens but currently I only have a cheap parker and a 60s parker 51 vacumatic.

As a lefty, I can't really do fountain pens unfortunately. I do have a Mont Blanc Meisterstuck rollerball I bought from someone at the gun show back in the mid-90s.

Protip: The MB rollerball ink SUCKS. Expensive, and runs dry incredibly quickly. Use the Cross Selectip Gel refill. It's a little too short for the Mont Blanc, but easily remedied if you wrap a little scotch tape aruond the butt end of the refill to extend it. Cross gel writes very nicely and lasts a while.
