Finding a jacket for a project

Ok, I have been inspired by this thread: http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=19672
I would like to make my own waxed cotton jacket in a burnt orange color so I need a jacket to start from. I am mostly looking for white or tan/khaki (tan is actually easier to get looking burnt orange than a white jacket) but I would also be cool with one that I didnt have to dye.

The jacket used in that thread is available in a white color:

and the price is great. The only issue is that the fit might not be so great. It isn't super stylish to start with (The OP recommended maybe taking it in a little) and I probably cant size down for fear of losing too much length (I am over 6'). The measurements I was given are:
MED-CHEST 38-40 LG-42-44, XL-46-48
MED SLEEVE-25" L-26" XL-27"
LENGTH MED IS -30" L-31" XL-32"
The price is right though at ~$30...

Are there any other cotton jackets out there ready for such a project (probably have to be unlined)? I have looked online and not found much but I was thinking there might be some cheap cotton jacket left over from the fall season at one of those trendy shops I don't have access to (uniqlo, zara, etc).

Any suggestions? thanks

But a ****** jacket to learn technique on. Doesn't need to be any good, and it doesn't even need to be new. You could just do this with an old denim jacket from a thrift shop if necessary. This probably isn't completely necessary, but you learn a lot the first time. Do the second one with something worthwhile. Wax an Ironheart jacket or whatever.

And take pictures.

Mostly I am looking for somewhere that can do a cotton jacket (not necessarily denim/twill) but it's got to be a light color. It wouldn't be worth buying an expensive jacket and then bleaching it until its almost falling apart just to dye it again.

Also the fabric shouldn't be too heavy since the waxing will add quite a bit of heft and stiffness

I'm getting anxious to try this project...I searched ebay a ton for cotton jackets in either khaki or white (either color would easily dye burnt-orange) and the best thing I found was this:

I can get it in medium or large for 64.99 shipped but I don't know too much about the rugby stuff's quality. I would be curious as to how heavy the fabric is...the waxing will add some heft but it can't be paper-thin to start with.

It's twice as expensive as the Pointer jacket but I am guessing it would fit me better...with the Pointer jacket I would either size down to M and deal with it being a little short (I'm a hair under 6'2) or get L and probably have to take it in at the sides (on a cheap jacket like this I might try taking it in myself...otherwise how much would a drycleaner charge?).

Which seems like a better option for this?

How's the quality on the rugby jackets (I've never owned any of their stuff)

I have some oxford button ups from rugby and the quality is really good for the price in my opinion.

I guess I will give it a try. At $65 it is probably a better option than trying to buy the pointer jacket and have it taken in.
