apologies for the size of some of these... New Order because they are just that amazing. Without Joy Division and New Order you can get rid of many of todays hot new bands.

Scritti Politti are ignored by many, but this album is just soooo good. An anarcho-marxist something or other who makes just perfect pop.

Who doesn't like Rufus Wainwright? How can you not? Beautiful pop influenced by tin pan alley and opera.

Stacey Kent is a great young (30s) American jazz singer living in England.

I avoided Death Cab for Cutie when I first heard about them just because of their name. That was a mistake. This is their album, The Photo Album, and I think it is their best.

808state named themselves (either very creatively or very un-creatively) after their drum machine. And they know how to use it.

Even though The Cure hasn't recorded much worth listening to in many years, imo, their stuff from the very early 1980s is brilliant and I can still hear it in my head when I first heard in then.

This Depeche Mode album in particular was very influential to me. World Full of Nothing is a cynical take on love that my teenage mind managed to turn into pure romance. But Here is the House makes me think of one house. I still know the house number. She was my first love.

I'm sure there are more but these mean a lot to me.

There are. Look at my post. But we clearly don't listen to the same stuff.

+1 on this list. Entertainment, Remain in Light, Low, Revolver etc. all undeniably perfect in their own way.
