Hi Everyone, I think I'm about to pull the trigger on a Tiffany engine-turned buckle. I currently have 2 belt straps that are 1" wide bridle leather that is roughly 4 mm thick. Does anyone have experience with leather this thick used in conjunction with the Tiffany buckle? How difficult is it to "thin out" a leather belt so that the buckle would work if it is too thick?

Furthermore, does it matter that my straps have holes in them for this type of belt? Obviously, the holes wouldn't be used, I just don't want to have to buy new belt straps for both monetary and sentimental reasons.

Finally, does anyone have any advice on sourcing high quality buckles elsewhere? A local silver shop in my city says that their vendor makes the buckles for Tiffany and I believe them. They look the same from the back of the buckle.

Any shoe repair shop should be able fit your belt to this buckle the term is called skiving. Depending on what your looking for get in touch with a high end western wear shop like M.L. Leddys, they do custom belt buckles etc.
