I think I tried them all on and none of them really work on me, but they do on other guys.

If you have a flabby chest and mid section, you can try hori. stripes, but youre right it may not work.

I can't remember the last time I saw a vertical striped polo.

Wearing a properly fitted, well-constructed sports coat (or suit coat) is the single most effective thing a larger guy can do to conceal a few extra pounds.

It's also the single most effective thing a short guy, tall guy, skinny guy, and average in every way imaginable guy can do.

Ya, a good sports coat is very flattering, or a good fitted coat/jacket in general. Not just for weight, but all around. I find a good coat can make me look older which is what I go for generally, not younger.
As for the stripes, everyone is different build wise, so those who said try it on and see are right...you ll get a feel for what looks good on you.

The GQ Horatio Sanz article is a good argument for larger people to buy fitting clothes.

Except that the suit in the picture doesn't really seem to fit him, well. Pulls away from the chest, trousers sort of baggy.... might just be the oddball pose they stuck him in, though. He's been a lot funnier at the UCBT than anything I've seen him do on television.

This sounds awful.

Plus it looks like they gave him a skinny tie. Looks like they can't follow their own rules.

Talk about monochromatic.

Clothes that fit go a long way to make someone look better, regardless of body type.

Also, "appearace" is a static concept - actually losing weight (through exercise and better diet) has some positive dynamic effects: more energy, feeling "lighter" and fleet-footed, and a generally positive disposition and cheery countenance

which all contribute to the impression of being slimmer and more youthful (which is what "weight" is really all about).

I'm going to regret this, I'm sure. But I'll use myself as an example.

This was me six months ago.

I don't think there was much that style could have done to help lessen the nausea induced from the former appearance. Still have another 40 pounds to go, but damn it feels good to look good again.
