Dents Cashmere Lined Peccary Gloves

Before I ask my question, here's a bit of a background: I live in Chicago very close to the lakefront. The past year I bought a pair of Dents rabbit fur lined leather gloves for $160 which I thought was expensive. They didn't do the job during the middle of winter - my hands were still fairly cold. Here it gets extremely cold due to the windchill.

I was under the impression that rabbit fur was supposed to be extremely warm - then I heard about Peccary gloves.

So I went ahead and bought a pair of Dents Peccary cashmere lined gloves, for $350 thinking they'd be the real deal.

Now upon inspection, the leather is beautiful, but the cashmere doesn't seem any more substantial than a cheaper pair of gloves.

So my question is, are these gloves more of a fashion piece or also for function? Does Peccary actually provide better insulation as compared to a cheaper leather?

I know that alpaca tends to be the warmest, but I cannot find an alpaca lined peccary glove.

Appreciate any input, thanks!

Did you buy your Dents in Chicago? I am thinking about buying a pair but wanted to try them on first.

Peccary is a more durable leather, and of course some people prize its appearance.
Truthfully, if you want to be really warm, shearling or down mittens are the way to go.

More durable in what sense? My experience with peccary (shoes and gloves) is that is scuffs very easily and is not particularly water resistant. Beautiful and buttery-soft to be sure, but "durable" is not what springs to mind first for me.

No I bought them straight from Dents, size 8 in the dark brown. I'm not satisfied in their warmth to be honest.. but then again my fingers get much colder than most people. Paid $350.. wouldn't mind selling them.

This would be a question I'm interested in seeing answered as well.

Aaron at the NY Kent Wang popup shop mentioned that deerskin tends to be more scuff-resistant than peccary and calf. I suspect the latter are softer and (for calf) smoother. But deerskin is one of the more water-resistant glove leathers.

In any case, I've been searching for quality details for a while now. It's getting cold in the city... could use a pair.
