i'm pretty spartan in grooming.

i've awlays used neutrogena liquid cleanser since i was a teen. if i switch i break out a little but my skin is problem free in general.

i don't exfoliate or moisturize or tone.

i shave with barbasol and aqua velva using a sensor excel razor.

Merkur Barber pole HD with a Merkur blade and I'm impressed. Really close shave, I dont notice any burn but I feel just a little bit.

First shave with a DE razor and I can see why they're the most recommended, its impressive.

i'm kind of a brute and lack finesse so i think i may cut my throats with a DE. i've only seen one though in hong kong on nathan road where they sell all the scents/ drugstore stuff. maybe i'll buy one there over the holidays. none sold where i live and i'm not into ordering online so much. truefitt and hill though are very nice IME. i've used their line for sensitive skin.

i scored some old old spice today. not bad. i was surprised it was a splash but didn't really know what to expect from those bottles.

I think it would take some serious effort to cut your throat with a DE.

Was it difficult to get used to?

No issues with the razor. I think that my technique needs work, but I'm all for improving.

My only issue right now, the last shave with my M3 left with some terrible razor burn (basically prompting the switch) its been about a week and has yet to go away.

Are there any cures out there for razor burn? Is the fact that it has lasted a week or so a cause for concern?

Razor burn lasting a week??? Two days is the absolute longest I've had trouble with it, and that was a day I shaved twice. I'm inclined to wonder how much of it is an allergen/chemical sensitivity. What have you been putting on your face lately?

(incidentally, try rubbing ice on your face and see if that helps matters)

I think you're right. I'm trying to narrow down whats causing it to be prolonged. I think it was the Williams shaving soap.

Everything else are things i've used repeatedly with no issues.

^^ I hear you, but I think there tends to be a tipping point where you aggravate your skin, and then everything else just piles on and continues the burn - no matter how benevolent it was in previous use. I'd avoid any and everything for a couple of days and see how it shakes out.

Sounds like a plan. Than I'll start back from step 1 in a few days. Working on my shaving techniques with the safety razor also, which I think may also contribute to prolonging.

Anyone care to recommend something for dry, sensitive skin? I have dry skin only on my forehead, nose, and the "triangle". I've tried alot of different moisturizers but nothing really improves, only temporarily.

Thomas, turns out so far that I was simply under-lathering the cream with too little water and it was drying my face out.

I watched a few videos on youtube on how to lather cream and how it actually takes quite a bit of time and there is a consistency issue thats important.
