Cowboy boots...

When I was doing temp work, I helped set up an Orvis expo (I picked up a very nice Argyle cardigan for about 80% off), I liked a pair of shoes a guy that worked there was wearing so I asked what they were. They were cowboy boots. Since then I've been meaning to get a pair and haven't gotten around to it, I don't think any other kind of shoe looks better under a pair of jeans.

What do you all think of cowboy boots?

This has made the rounds before on the forum, though not recently - try a search. A lot of people think they're classic and <cough> timeless. I'm not certain I'd agree, but they have their places and times. Personally, I'd like a "roper" style pair, more of a work boot, w/o the stitching, tall heel and pointed toe. I Â guess that makes it not a cowboy boot. My gf has a pair of Frye boots that are pretty badass. These I might be able to pull off. I know Orvis has some offerings in this area, as well. Hopefully this thread will result in more hilarious cowboy boot image posting. It's an item that encourages conspicuous display.

My Justin work boots are amazingly comfortable. I'd recommend these over true cowboy boots if you're in danger of looking like a poser.

Go for it. But that is my colorado roots speaking. If you don't want the cowboy underslung heel look for the roper or walking heel, similar to what you will find on a shoe. They are a cool way to dress up your jeans.

Limited sizes, but I think These Var-vay-tos boots on bluefly would be somewhat wearable. A little on the light side, maybe...

I would say it depends on where you are geographically. I have a pair of plain, black ropers that I wear with jeans for more informal occcasions, and even slacks when I work in the pharmacy in a small town in rural Eastern Washington. However, when I go to one of the larger cities for a convention, I switch to dress shoes as they do seem a bit more professional.
Having said that, I've noticed that boots convey a sense of power and may even give you a little more respect in a meeting. This could have something to do with our current commander-in-chief's dress habits. (Not that I reccommend using the President as a model for style).
