I have no dog in this fight because I mostly listen to streamed music and I’m fine with it. But I can absolutely hear the difference between CDs and streams. I can’t tell the difference between MP3s (of sufficient bitrate) and CDs, though.

i listen to mostly classical music radio and mostly via streaming. I think it’s really enjoyable even though the kps is less than Spotify (EG Radio Swiss Classic and WQXR). What I do notice the most is the loudness compression. WQXR is a lot louder than Radio Swiss classic and I have to change the volume when going between the stations. I think the Radio Swiss classic is similar in loudness to CD because I don’t have to change to loudness when switching that with files.

Concrete coasters also generally don’t stick. They do get stained easily, so you have to be okay that.

Does anyone have experience with Muuto aniline leather? My couch from Muuto has worn heavily despite extremely limited use and regular conditioning. It gets a few hours of sun on longer summer days, when the sun is low. Any tips?

The seat area:

Reference area:

FWIW, I find that it's a clean design, but not in use not as swish as goods by some of the legacy makers.

What else would you have considered instead of the Outline? I was looking at the cognac aniline leather though Design Within Reach has a semi-aniline option which would likely be more durable.

In for a 2-pack of baking steels (the single is small so you need 2 to cover bottom of oven).

Going to try out the 10" nonstick as well as my current one is showing its age.

So I think I am a fan of these baking steels. The surface finish seems a bit rough, not sure it matters (especially as I am mostly not cooking anything directly on them), but I might take the time to clean up the surface at some point. At half price, I'm happy although for full price I would have expected a little more sanding.

They seasoned up real nice and I like that they are modular--let me try the technique where you surround the pizza with stones:

Not 100% sure it actually did any better for the top, but I liked what the steel did for the bottom crust. Will experiment with going higher up in the oven next time (Kenji's recipe has you use the bottom to be closer to the heating element, but that shouldn't matter as much with the steel).

Gotta make sure you have sufficient preheat time, but my oven seems to compensate well (if I check the steels with an IR thermometer, they are at temp when the oven says it is done preheating). It could just be placebo effect, but I think I have noticed a difference in other baked/roasted items just from having the steels in the oven.

The nonstick pan however...meh. I have used it once, it was perfectly good pan, better than a random cheapo, but nothing special--I'd feel ripped off at full price. The non-stick coating is oddly rough and I wonder how it is going to perform on things like eggs.

I wound up going with the Muuto Outline but ordered from Mohd.it instead of Design Within Reach and saved about 35% with the exchange rate and lack of VAT. Was able to get the cognac semi-aniline I wanted as well. Delivery not till August/September though

Nice. The outline is on my shortlist. It was a little uncomfortable when I last went to dwr. Need to go back and try it again.

Damn, are you as old as Jlib or #9? My mother also has a copy from her hospital days which isn’t as old as that one. And she is 72….

It's not my personal copy from school - I was using the 35th edition when I was a student.

Sturdy enough for everyday use, with the goal being slim dimensions and a very honest construction with all aspects clearly visible and understandable upon inspection.

25 pieces in total (excluding 28 pairs of nuts and bolts), all of which can be taken apart and packaged more or less flat for transport.

Made out of ash wood (treated with hardwax oil) and steel (finished with renaissance wax).
