I still get coffee shipped to me from House of Coffee Beans in Houston. I've tasted a lot of great coffee roasted here the Bay Area but still find this to be the best I've ever had.

This weekend I will try the place on 7th street and 1st ave. I dont remember the name.

+1 on Gimme. Dumb name, but some of the best espresso/latte on the east coast.

For Seattle, I'd go with Vivace, then Victrola and Stickman--in that order.

Ever in Penticton, BC check out Fibbonaccis. They roast in house and make a hell of an eye opening dark roast. only got burnt coffee there once. and they re-made it no problem. better then morebucks where i get burnt coffee 2 out of 3 times. Awesome place to hang out has the whole "early 90's Northwest" vibe to it. open mike night once a week, shows a couple times a week in the summer. They also have excellent pasta salad and they make a wicked Donair. Little expensive food wise but nary a better place to go in Pen after a long smoke with friends.

an Coffee in Newport Beach is amazing. It's Martin Diedrich's current coffeehouse, and it produces some of the best coffee I've ever had. The Ethiopia Yergacheffe is my current morning brew.

I just spent 2 weeks in France. Unequivocally the worst coffee I've ever had. They don't tamp the grounds, I noticed, in the portafilter. They also don't freshly grind, just pull grounds from a hopper attached to a grinder. And the milk...oh god, it looks like a ******* bubble bath. I'm no expert but these are all things that premium coffee shops around here do better. It almost ruined the trip.

Oh, I do like a lot of the coffee from the Bay Area - it's just that the people at the House of Coffee Beans do the best job at roasting their beans to best present the unique characteristics of each particular variety.

The ones I consistently buy are the Guatemala Oriflama Estate, the Columbian Supremo, and the Tanzanian Peaberry.

Abraco is pretty cool. I go there in the morning before work. But i agree that 9th street is the best. Gimme coffee, grumpy and some place on Ave A and 12th (they use inteligencia beans) street are where i have been going lately.

Out of all these places... i believe that Abraco has the best iced coffee FWIW.

I have never been to Simon Sips.. need to google that place

If in midtown, i think the Joe the Art in Greybar passage is very good.
