I guess I failed to mention mine.

I try to give as much as I can away, nothing I own carries much re-sale value.

1) Sell the stuff that has resale value.
2) Give the rest to goodwill.

1. Does it still fit?
2. Have I worn it out lately?
3. Would I wear it out again?
4. Would I just lounge around in it?
3. Do I have something else that "fills the niche"?
4. Am I sentimental about it?

+1. There are the items I give to the charity. Then there are the items I give to family and friends. (Oddly, I know way too many peoples' shirt sizes than is probably healthy.) Only recently have I had items that I think would be worth the trouble of reselling.

I tend to divide it up by:

Can I remember the last time I wore this?
Would I wear it tomorrow?
Would I pass it on to my kids?

That pretty much takes care of it. If I can't remember when I wore it last then it probably never stuck with me to begin with. If I have excuses not to wear it the next day (weather permiting) then it probably never stuck with me to begin with. If it's an article that has some personal attachment or is just cool enough to be appreciated later in the future then I pack it away. For example, I've got a soccer jacket given to players of a US/UK Select Umbro team the year I was born. You better believe that will look cool today or twenty years from now. It's significant enough that I couldn't give it away.

After all that it just comes down to whether it's new enough to put up for sale here or given to local charities that need it a hell of a lot more than I do. The latter tends to happen more often.
