I'm planning on getting some Chippewa boots, and want to know what you can tell me about how the sizes run on them.

Do they make allowance for thicker socks in their sizing?

I found this thread ... http://www.styleforum.net/showthread...pewa+boot+size ... but it doesn't address the thick sock vs. thin sock question.

(I usually buy dress shoes, which are worn with thin socks. Dress shoe companies, when they make rubber-soled 'country shoes', will make the same 'size' of shoe a bit larger to fit a thicker more casual/work sock. Can I assume the same sort of approach with Chippewa?)

Many thanks in advance ...

Dude, your way over thinking this. First off, yes I'm sure that they assume you will be wearing thicker socks. Second, just go into a good work boot supply store, of which B.C. should be lousy with, and try some on. If you truly can't find a store that carries them, order a pair of Zappos or STP and just plan on returning them. Both companies offer free returns and come with a shipping label. Even if they don't have the right style you can just order a pair to figure out sizing.

THe simple answer is just order the same size that you wear in everything else. I've never been able to understand all this size up size down BS when it comes to shoes.

I've got two different pairs of Chippewas and I'd say they run a half size large.

I am a true 11.5.

I have one pair in an 11 and one in a 11.5, and the size 11 pair seems to fit much better.

They run a little large, if you buy your true size you'll be able to wear wool socks.

yeah, I have my pair on right now and they seem to run a little large. Of course I'm wearing thin white cotton socks right now while doing laundry.

they are awesome boots though; I'm sure you'll love them.

Bullshit. I've been wearing boots for twenty years and never have sized down once. Clarks, Chucks, RW, Docs, all the same size. Maybe you all just have hella narrow feet b/c that's the only way I could imagine being able to size down. I can't even fit into the GT and people seem to be able to size down a whole size. Insane.

Sizes is definitely not standard. Maybe you just buy the same size and you are happy enough with that. There are 4 major measurements concerning fit: length, arch length, foot height, and width. My brannock length measurement is an 11, yet my arch length is close to a size 13.

Hell my asolo's are size 11.5 and they are slightly too small. I need a 10.5 in red wings.

I consistently wear 5-6 different shoes/boots. They are sizes 10, 10.5 11 11.5, 12

My foot's 11 inches. A width. For the record that is an 11 in Chippewa's LL Bean boot with wool socks. 11.5 might have been money with a wider foot, I couldn't tell you though.
