I'm a couple hours south of Chi-town, but go there regularly...
Shopping-- Go to George Greene on 22 E. Oak St (I think Steve B will know exactly)- really nice menswear and the only Dior homme in town. Also check out Barney's New York on Oak street as well. Diesel is a block away down rush if you like that stuff. It's right off Michigan Avenue. Michigan has a huge Saks Mens store and a good Neiman Marcus as well. I'm sure Steve B will chime in as he is the pro when it comes to shopping resources.
Restaurants are plentiful. Nine is a restaurant in the West Loop that has great, but pricey steaks and seafood. Wonderful atmosphere though. Also, check out Tavern on Rush for a great steak as well as the more pricey, but wonderful Gibson's across the street. Sorry I can't be more specific, but all of these places are withing three blocks of each other except for Nine which is a cab ride away.
Cheers,
Pete

Scnupe:

There are at least a dozen great specialty stores in Chicago. Do you prefer downtown, or will you be staying in a suburb?

Be happy to give you an overview, or e-mail a portion of my database. It might also help me to know what specific labels you're looking for.

George Greene info is as follows: Edmund Paszylk, John Moran, John Jones, Proprietors
49 E. Oak St., Chicago, IL 60611. (312) 654-2490
Pete and I usually speak with Edmund.

Syd Jerome is also great- one of two spec stores in US to carry Saint Andrews (except for RLPL of course), and also recently added Sutor Mantellassi shoes.

Davis for Men is another of my favorites...Rumor has it Michael Jordan used to shop there when he was a Bull, and the owner Steven Davis is really nice.

Morris and Sons has GREAT deals, too. I'm not allowed to post or publish what they have because of the exclusives they have with certain labels. But going there is well worth the trip...

If you have time check out Optimo Hats, too. Even if you don't like hats they have really interesting old hat making and maintenance eqt that hasn't been made for years.

sorry I got George Greene's addy wrong. I figured Steve B. would jump in with much better info. The guys there have had some great events lately They had Massimo Bizzochi in the store for a greating an Kiton collection viewing as well as his own. They've had a Flusser book signing in the past and have Luciano Barbera show coming up.
