Cheaney Trafalgar Boot Or Crockett and Jones Ross Boot?

After reading countless threads here I've finally joined in on the action, so this is my first post.

I cant seem to make up my mind on this purchase. I'm trying to decide between the Cheaney Trafalgar Boot black calf skin with Vibram sole or the C&J Ross boot that only comes in "Chocolate hurricane hide" also with Vibram sole.

I used to live in the UK but I'm now living back in Canada. Since our winters are quite harsh I'm looking for a serious boot.

If C&J offered the Ross in black leather I would have bought them already, but they can only make them in black with a 200gbp price difference. The Trafalgars would be more versatile for me simply because they're black.

The Ross is absolutely beautiful though and I'm contemplating buying them in the brown anyways. I'm torn between these 2 models.

Does anyone have any experience with either of these boot models? Or can weigh in on what would be the best decision? Is the quality of the Ross far superior to the Trafalgar?

I don't own either personally, though I would imagine the C+J Ross is a better boot in general. I love all my C+J boots.

But in the end, if you want a black boot and aren't willing to pay the cost for them to do it, you should but the boot in the color you actually want.

I’m biased toward Crockett & Jones and I’ve actually eyes those boots for the past few months. In my opinion, C&J offers the most bang for the buck when it comes to boots.

Just had a look, very nice boots indeed. I really like the Biker and Hetre models, not sure the visible stitching on the Gingko is my style. I would like to keep my boots English made because I get a sense of nostalgia from the years I used to live in the UK.

I've gone with the Cheaney Trafalgar in black. If they aren't what I expected I'll take a small loss on the return and buy the C&J Ross.

Not really sure why he recommended you a French-made split toe bi-material when you linked English non splits.

Split toes are very popular right now it seems, but it definitely has to be what you are looking for.

I've noticed they're quite popular right now as well, not my style at all though.

Yes I can imagine the C&J is probably one notch above Cheaney quality. I've gone with Cheaney for now, the military style is kind of cool. I just hope the last fits my skinny foot.
