Hi, I'm new to the board (and the Chicago area). I was wondering if anyone knows of any places in the Chicago area that do chainstitching? If not, can anyone at least recommend a place that does a good sticky hem for jeans?

I don't know about Chicago, but you can send them in to 45rpm (Soho). Measure how much you want taken off and let them know. It will cost $20/pair for non-45rpm jeans. Their return shipping is reasonable and the entire process should take less than a week.

but Frank's tailoring in the Maxwell street area is a great place to do alterations of any kind. They specialize in suits, but have done things with my denim like narrow my 5ep's at the rise seam and inner thigh, making them smaller by one size; and changing my 40" duffel coat to 38" and tailored. One tip for them, though is BE SPECIFIC about what you want, and don't be shy about making a fuss. Their usual clientele is the downtown suit and tie crowd, so you need to be explicit. Knowing that, you can't do better, and it's incredibly cheap compared to other tailors in the city for this quality.

the price for the jeans alteration was about 14-19 dollars. It was a while ago, forgive me. But I do remember it being so cheap compared to the guys on oak street (alfred, boguslaw, and the guy across the street) I had to do a spit take.

sorry, one of my friend's parents own a drycleaners in the suburbs so I get my tailoring done for free...but its not a great experience and you have to be very specific so I wouldn't reccomend it unless you're paying what I pay.
