Can I wear plaid pants without looking like an old man?

Actually, on the whole that is best. The overall color scheme and sweater pattern distract from the patterned pants (the pants being "old man" by themselves), and the sweater' pattern, color, and fit make the chest look better. The problems are the eye-like part of the sweater and the fullness of the pants.

PT, it depends on your definition of "old man."

There are a lot of older guys out there, my own grandfather included, who insist on wearing far worse things than plaid pants because they're afraid of "looking like an old man."
It's the reason so many people wear non-iron dress shirts, quick-dry sport shirts, zip-off pants, and black New Balance "mall-walkers."

Wear your plaid pants proudly.

Men who can nonchalantly wear audacious pants and get away with it are few and far between, and to my eye you could be counted among their numbers.
If anybody makes a judgment about your them, it's more likely to be "That guy's got balls" than anything concerning your age.

Looking a little like Tommy Lee Jones doesn't hurt your cause, either.

I can do Italian:

Brioni cashmere tweed jacket
Brioni tie
Kiton dusty rose striped shirt,
Loro Piana linen/cotton pants
Berluti wholecut shoes
National flag,
I can do French as well.

Nice jacket. It looks too big for you though (most obvious around your upper left side). An ecru shirt would probably work better. The stripes are too much with the pants and the shade of blue in the tie.
