I've looked through the Brooks Brothers website and they have a "Design Your Own" function for suits. Basically you start with a fit (Madison / Fitzgerald / Regent / Milano) and pick other details such as buttoning style, lapel stitching, flap vs. patch pockets and a few other things. You then pick jacket size and trouser size.
Given the prices ($650 for wool, $550 for cotton prior to the friends and family discount that ends tonight), I assumed the quality and construction would be the same as it is for the suiting essentials line and that this was simply an updated version of suiting essentials that offered more customization options (I thought you could only pick fabrics and had to accept the basic jacket model before). After clicking through to try creating a suit, however, I saw a reference to half canvassed construction. My prior understanding is that the suiting essentials line was fused, so this would be a bit of a difference.
Does anyone have experience with these suits? If so, how would you compare the fabric quality with the 1818 line or the suiting essentials line? For now I'm likely to consider doing this to get my double vented seersucker suit that I've wanted for awhile (thrilled that I can get patch pockets too), but this might be an economical way to get a casual suit if the fabric is decent.
Thanks.
