I'm putting this movie review here, due to subject content. Wine. It's not a great movie by any means, but if you love wine, rent it. It seems to capture a more innocent time in Cali wine, and presents a very real event, the 1976 blind tasting in Paris, CA wine vs. French.

I saw it last week and went into it not expecting much. It was a decent film in my view. But what I liked the best was the scenery it captured.

Spot on review.

For wine and script/acting/characters, Sideways is still superb.

I would say, Sideways is different. The focus is different, the circa is different. But, it all takes place in CA wine country, and wine plays a large roll. In fact, my favorite varietal plays a large roll

I agree completely. Saw this on a plane. A B movie certainly, but well worth watching. The CA nostalgia factor played big for me.

It makes me want to drop everything and move to Sonoma. And just do nothing but drink and make wine all day.

The movie focuses on the '73 Montelena chard, which beat several white burgs at the '76 tasting.

Kwilk, I was referring to the part Pinot Noir plays in Sideways.

It was very odd to watch the movie, as it features a Sea Smoke. While the bottle they show is a different bottling (they show a Botella), my "ah huh" bottle was a Sea Smoke, 2002 Southing. It was the bottle that changed my tastes in wines, and my relationship with wines, forever.

that's understandable - fantastic wine. just wish that there was some movement on the sea smoke allocation list...btw, i'm sure others saw this, but in case, earlier this year montelena was almost sold to michel reybier (and, i suppose, bruno prats), owner of cos d'estournel. deal fell apart due to difficulties in obtaining financing and the appreciation of the $, but i hear that it may resurrect...

It seems like someone needs to die for that list to move. I do believe they have lost/changed master wine makers, so we shall see what this brings for future vintages.

unfortunately, i agree with you. not holding my breath on any improvements due to the change of wine maker. change of owner and wine maker hasn't helped much with the william selyem list. found a much better position on kosta browne's list, so gave up ws.

How long does it take for Sea Smoke's list? I've been on the waiting list going on a year, but I'm assuming I'll get an email in another three years saying I finally have an allocation.
