Thanks all for your suggestions. I think I may settle for this one: Ferragamo Signature Detailed Loafers, since it looks attractive, has rubber soles [I take the NYC subway everyday] and is priced lower at $285

http://www.saksfifthavenue.com/main....SLOT=15 I really like the C&J Weymouth and plan to acquire that, or a significantly cheaper alternative (Loake Norwich) in the future, perhaps from plal.com Is there any US store or online retailer that sells Loake shoes?

I was lucky enough to score a pair of these just a few weeks ago:

They're great and I've gotten a lot of nice compliments while wearing them, but like many have said, they're not the best for heavy walking. However, I think I may be able to help out. Â One thing I'm surprised no one here has mentioned is that Cole Haan was using the horsebit on every other pair of loafers they made a few seasons ago. Â In fact, they still do. Â The good news is that not only are these MUCH cheaper than any of the alternatives mentioned thus far, but these shoes can often be found at outlets at a significant discount.

DSKent-  Thanks. May I ask what's the brand name and model of the shoe you bought?
Oops, I guess it's not too obvious from the photo, but those are the Gucci horsebit driving mocs in dark brown.  They also come in black with gold hardware, I believe.
