I recently had a change of occupation that required a new wardrobe (from jeans + polo to dress & business casual). I made several purchases at full retail and was wondering if I made any bad purchases. I've been stung before buying overpriced chit that fell apart after extended usage (Hugo Boss).

$2000 MTM JP Tilford Suit (promotion free sewn cuff buttons, and exotic linings). Picked a wool cashmere blend in royal blue.
$790 mackage jacket: http://www.harryrosen.com/clothing/outerwear/coats/mackage/dillon-jacket/p/46550023
$250x5 assorted variety of ETON dress shirts
$300 Canali Belt http://www.harryrosen.com/accessories/belts/canali/perforated-leather-belt/p/65660371
$600 John Varvatos Sports Coat http://www.harryrosen.com/clothing/...star-usa/unstructured-sport-jacket/p/41570116

Did I make a blunder in my purchases in terms of quality? Please don't suggest "outlets" or anything of the sort, I'm not going to spend time hunting for rock bottom prices.

Thanks!

i like the tilford samuelsohn stuff a lot. the one hopsack blazer i've handled was very nice. the best basic tailoring i've seen from canada.

i'd say you did fine (in terms of quality) with the exception of varvatos which is garbage imo. the cut sucks and so does the build quality that i've seen.

you could do far far better for cost on secondary market/outlet/whathaveyou, but as you point out time = money.

Thanks! The JV surprisingly fit me the best of all the sport coats I've tried off the rack. I have a slim silhouette with broad shoulders so it was like a hand in glove.
