1. read blacktieguide.com if you haven't already. 2. what's your budget? Keep in mind that there are a lot of accessories you will need. If the budget is low and you are not in a hurry, consider ebay for some (or all) of this stuff.

I remember someone posted this photo of a vintage tux a while ago that I was absolutely mesmorized by, so I am going to post it again.

BB sells some very acceptable tuxedos (just stay away from the three button notch lapel model

). Some object to the center vent (it can be closed) and the pocket flaps (they can be tucked in or removed). I am of the school that tuxedo pants should not have pleats, but reasonable men differ. (Trousers can be recut to remove pleats -- admittedly a bigger operation than closing a vent but I'd bet BB does this in house a fair amount.) If you can wait, they are discounted twice a year in the big sales.

Brooks and Paul Stuart are both good mid-range options. Fully canvassed, made in Canada. At least, PS ones are. Again, center vented, but just have that closed.

I got 10 years of good use out of a Paul Stuart DJ but look forward to retiring it this fall.
