Hey all,

Today I was in for a very nice suprise at my local TJ Maxx and Marshalls. I suspect these items are found at their locations across the country because I was in Chicago yesterday and saw the exact same things in their stores.
Here's what I saw:

-Pantherella cashmere socks (made in England), many colors (all nice),
$11/pair clearance at TJ Maxx
-Punto socks, many colors, cashmere blend, $7/pair clearance at TJ Maxx
-Donna Karan (not DKNY) made in Italy socks, $6/pair clearance at TJ Maxx

-Ski/Snowboard pants, forgot the brand but looked really nice, made in Italy, $100, store price was $300
-Marker ski/snowboard pants, clearance $27 (store price $180)
-Bolle and Smith ski goggles, $15 clearance (store price $60-80)
-Ski/Snowboard helmets, insulated and very warm w/ ear covers, Italian-made, store price $140+, clearance for $36

-Pringle wool sweaters, made in Scottland, $29 clearance at Marshalls

-Ceramic-bladed kitchen knives, $35 for small paring knife, $40 for medium, $50 for larger size ($175, $225, $300 store prices)
-Italian-made heavy stainless steel skillets, $8-$15 clearance at marshalls
-All-clad copper pans at Marshalls for $25 clearance, store price $130+

there were many other nice things, feel free to post any of your recent sightings at discount stores.

Also, Jhane Barnes leather coats clearance for $130 at TJ's (not sure of quality, even though Saks carries the line), Aquarium made-in-Italy wool and cashmere overcoats for between $99 and $175 on clearance, Ike Behar wool overcoats for $130 on clearance all at Marshalls.

*Edit*
Also, Joseph Abboud 100% cashmere scarves, made in Germany, $22 clearance.

I took a look at the Pantherella and Punto socks today at TJ Maxx. They were OK, but I think that I'll wait to buy Pantherella's cotton socks, even if I have to pay more.
I've recently visited Nordstrom Rack, Filene's Basement, Marshall's and TJ Maxx. I'm quite disappointed by what I've seen. Many of the items seem as though they may have been made for the US budget Italian market, specifically for these stores to price and claim much higher original prices. I've seen some pants with the label "made in Biella" to attract those who have heard of Biella but don't know specifically what it is famous for(fine woolens), and the pants are made quite badly. I've also seen more and more badly made shirts with very thick plastic buttons, french/double cuffs, and split yokes in hopes of fooling people into believing that these features make the shirts of good quality.
A friend of mine bought a JC Penney shirt a few years ago. The strange thing about the shirt was that one sleeve placket had a button and buttonhole, while the other sleeve's placket had a button sewn on, but no buttonhole. I wonder what JC Penney would do if he were to take the shirt back and show them. Obviously it was some time ago and I doubt he has the receipt anyway. On top of that stores like JC Penney and Gap do not alter or fix anything.
