What's dac biet?

Ah well, I live about 3 blocks away from Pho Cyclo so takeout is easy. Dac biet translates to "special", but it's just thinly sliced BBQ pork w/ pate and the usual veggies.

i pass it everyday into work, and stop by sometimes to grab a sandwich on the way home.

I edited the thread title cos seeing it misspelt annoyed my lived-here-four-years sensibilities. In answer to your question... I have mentioned her before up here, but this may be the greatest place on earth.... http://www.noodlepie.com/2006/02/is_this_the_bes.html

My driver actually just had an argument with the woman cos she took his order first and then others got their food before him. She banned him soup nazi style. I told him that this means I have to find a new driver (I was serious too, I love these things)....he went back an apologised, and the world made sense again.

Even though they're impostors, finding a Ba Le in your city usually means that you're going to get some good sandwiches and other traditional Vietnamese food items.

Vietnamese sandwiches just plain rule. i usually get them at Banh Mi My Tho here in Alhambra. hole in the wall joint with a max capacity of maybe 10 people standing, a B rating (wouldn't have it any other way). and you just can't beat the price, $2.25 for the beef version.

Yeah, unless, say, a cup of regular coffee there is like 12 bucks you're getting ripped off.

Everyone in NYC is getting ripped off. It's the price you pay for living in one of the epicenters of the world.

Wow seriously what the hell?

Vietnamese food is cheap, in plentiful portions, and delicous. You shouldn't be paying more than $7.95 for an entree, let alone a sandwich.

That's about 30 cent right there, for those who don't know.
