Anyone checked the new BOO online store? They have a ton of polos up for pre-order, and nothing else since they're still in the BETA stage. Now we can finally find BOO in one place!

Thoughts?........

The polo price point is pretty ridiculous. That said--I'm curious to see how they fit because I like the colors.

Are we talking about the same site? The one where you have to click "shop now", then select "load the store" from a drop-down menu, then click a tiny link at the bottom before you can see anything, and then you have to exit out of a product detail view before you can add it to your cart?

This site is what we in the business call a "commerce repellent".

Agreed^

but it's honestly not the biggest pain **********. You seem to be able to navigate it without having to jump from page to page (per each classification), so all options are always in front of you, which is neat.

Honestly given the general cost of band of outsiders products, I don't see the price point of about $150 to be that ridiculous. Overpriced? sure, but most of their items are, so it shouldnt be that hard to accept.

BoO has had polos before. It seems like they're launching a new line just for polos now.

I can't get it to switch categories. Stuck on this damn polo shirt page. Aside from dragging items into a cart this interface blows.

$250 for a casual button up shirt? $150 for a 50% cotton 50% polyester polo?

Even if I could afford it I wouldn't buy them.

OTOH, their suits and overcoats made by greenfield =

. Still wouldn't buy those either.

Branding. BoO products are priced in the way that D&G products are priced. You're paying to be a part of the lifestyle. Be quirky and cool like Jason Schwartzman. Although Styleforum members and most of our peers aren't often sold on this type of marketing, it's really effective to the public as a whole. It's a lot more difficult and expensive to pull off then just simply presenting a product and justifying its price. He's done it well. I'm pretty jealous that Paul Reubens wears his bowtie in this shot:

I mean, that's pretty ******* cool. Pee Wee Herman in your bowtie. Wow.

That said, I think this online store is dangerous for them. With this type of branding and pricing, Band of Outsiders has to rely on a feeling of exclusivity and scarcity - whether that's real or manufactured. Our community might not care about that, as we tend to look at things more pragmatically. A Band fan on this forum would probably buy from the online shop if they like the shirts and can afford them. But the more trendy folks who are buying because they see the brand in Details and on Kanye West will likely be turned off by the new easy availability of these. It's a dangerous move for them.
