At waist slim taper?

I'm looking for some fit advice.

Right now I'm a bit heavier than usual. I'm 5'8", 185, about 12 lbs over the weight I like to be. While I'm aiming to reverse this, in the meantime I want to still look good.

For shirts this is fine. I have a 42" chest, 32-33 sleeve, so Brook Brothers Regents fit decently. But pants are difficult.

Basically I want an at-waist pant that looks like a slim fit...but slim fits that fit my waist (35-36 pant size) are floppy from the thigh down. Skinny fits are actually ideal since at my size, they look slim, but the rise on these are so low they look childish for one, and for two, end up emphasizing my belly.

I know that having a taper put on a more traditional at-waist pant is my best bet...but I thought I would see if anyone makes an off-shelf pant that suits my need, as I cannot imagine my dilemma is an unusual one...
