Aquascutum Trench Coats - Any Good?

Not to be overly pedantic, but that's not a trench coat. It's a single-breasted short raincoat with many of the features of a classic trench (and what appears to be a superfluous storm flap). Aquascutum, particularly their Made in England stuff, is very good quality. If you like the jacket I think the quality is worth that price.

Aquascutum is on par with Burberry(s') in both quality and heritage when it comes to trench coats. That being said, I'd go for a classic double-breasted trench from either company.

Good quality (in the sense they seem to last forever and keep the rain away; I've no idea about construction details). Quite a large variation in fit, though. I have one that is pretty trim (in white, of all colours!

), and a more classic DB in tan that's much more "traditional" in fit (more so than I'd like, actually) My tailor is reluctant to try waist-suppressing it for fear of losing the waterproofing way they've done the seam, which sounds sensible, if frustrating in terms of fit.

^Yeah, finding out your trench coat's waist can't be altered is such a *****! If only trench coats had some strip of fabric that could be tied around the waist in some belt-like manner.

I prefer DB for my trenches OP, but if SB's what you're after, then it's a nice coat.

Made in England is on par with Burberry. They also have another line (Canada?) that is a step down, but usually still worth the cheap eBay prices.

Yeah, but even WITH the belt, there's a LOT of excess fabric that gets bunched up. Functionally, it's fine. Aesthetically, I'd prefer a little less bunching.

Yeah, I get what you mean. I have 2 trenchcoats, same fit boat as yours. I like the fit of the roomier one though, because I liked the military surplus/op-shop sort of design that the fit complemented, and I'd usually just belt it from the back and wear it unbuttoned anyway.

Looks nice. On the "classic DB trenchcoat" issue, since I am a 44R, I have always found them to be too much coat. I could have bought an authentic Burberry classic for $495 on sale and turned it down. I got tired out just walking around the store in it (all that fabric!) and I have some heavy coats. And they don't fit the same with the lining as without--how could they?
