Hi, Here's another call for help with suit fit. This is a 38R. Sleeves are obviously too long, just ignore those. Mostly interested in hearing about shoulders/chest/waist. Should the shoulders look that pointy? ( measured out around 17.5" ).

* I'm holding my phone over my shoulder for the last picture so try to ignore some of the wrinkling/bunching

I believe the length of the jacket is too long too but I am not certain. The rest is fine.

It's easier to judge length from a full-length picture. We can't see how long your legs are. But it's also something of a personal style issue: whether to cover the rear or not. The behind pic seems like it's a bit long, but that's a deceptive angle for a picture.

38S might be too short. It may have a higher button stance than the R. Did you try both?

The chest and shoulders look cleaner than many others from novices on here.

As far as length, I'm 5'9, so I kind of fall between the regular and short lengths. I agree that the regular is a bit long on me, but I think the short is too short, so I'm probably stuck with this. Here is an example of a 38S on me (different brand, but it should give you an idea).

That doesn't look short at all. Perfect conservative length, I'd say.

Also:

You may have noticed in my post that I wrote:

"Sleeves are obviously too long, just ignore those"

As a rule, half the respondents to fit posts don't read the original post, and a large subset of those respondents will have something to say about the least relevant subject of fit threads, sleeve length.

I agree, not too short. As you said, you may be right in the middle. FWIW, the current trend is for jackets to be anywhere from short to really short. You may have less a chance of standing out in a 38s, if that is a concern. The last thing anyone needs is an ill-informed colleague commenting on how your jacket is too long, when it's not.

One ole rule of thumb is whether you can cup your hand at the hem. The 38S seems to fit that rule more than the R.

why do people keep saying this? Of course they are. Thats like mentioning he needs to hem his trousers. The suit has not been purchased yet and therefore has not been tailored.

The length of the sleeves has no bearing on whether the suit is the appropriate size for him.
