Hey all, brief Q. The AE store on eBay has the shoe I want but only close to my size. I'm an 11 D in AE. They have an 11.5 B and an 11 EEE. Do you think either of these would work, and if so, which might work better?

The Benton was on the OLD #8 last. It is very similar to the now-defunct #4 last except that shoes on the #8 last have a removable orthotic. The Ashton is still being made on the old #8. This is quite distinct from the new #8 last used in many A-E shoes. The latter, unlike the old #8, is not a good fit on my feet.

I have the Benton in chili and merlot. I personally wouldn't chance getting something that wasn't my correct size. The Benton in merlot was discontinued with the Fall 2004 collection, in chili with the Spring 2005. If you fancy something of that sort, why not see if you can get a good deal on the Ashton? A-E has many other handsome "Dress Casual" shoes on the order of the Benton that might fit the same niche. I believe the Joplin, for example, just went on closeout, but I am not sure of this.

Yeah, you're probably right--I'm going to wait. I'd ideally like the Byron Chili in 11D but can't seem to find it anywhere.

No way on the 11EEE and you're still taking some risk with the 11.5B. May not be worth the risk unless its a steal and you can afford to dump (not likely the case even with E-Bay AE). I purchased a pair of AEs (Dryden) under very similar circustances (triple E's were to wide plus to much instep slack). I'm still luke warm on the shoe and the reality is I've had to limit its use to more domestic / utilitarian duties.

There's a "lightly used" pair in your size on e-Bay right now. I'm no good at posting links, but I'm sure a web search will turn them up.
