Do you also believe her when she says "I'm not mad"? Given 2 days notice, you did the best thing by not rewarding that behavior with something like dressing conventionally.

Exactly. In the future if you know there's something she was thinking of going to, keep planning for it until it's passed, because otherwise she WILL spring it on you last minute and you'll be unprepared.

Also, DM7, you should probably have one MC outfit set aside for surprise occasions. I say this as someone who had to attend the funeral of one of my best friends in a cheap, ill-fitting suit because I hadn't bothered to have one together. You never know when something could happen and you'll need one. I'm sure we'd all be willing to help you fill out the shoes, etc.

Thanks. That really cheered me up after reading all of that.

The majority of you guys really made me feel like crap. In my first post about wearing this stuff to prom I called it a "fashion faux pas". The combination was abominable. That was a given. It's embarrassing to think that you guys see me thrift all of this stuff and believe I know nothing about MC.

I wore what I had that fit best. I had been saving a PRL tux that fit me perfectly for this prom, but was told that I wasn't going. My girlfriend decided to go last minute (2 days before), and this was the best I could find:

The suit: It was bespoke, fitting around a 38R (I'm about a 37R). It was wearable. Was it formal? No. Did it fit perfectly? No. Was it dated? Yes. Everything else in my closet was 40 and up.
The shirt: 15.5 33 (my size), slim-fitting (my age/body), in good condition. If I could have worn something else, I would have, but nothing was close to fitting.
The tie: It's crazy. It's also horrendous except in very particular situations. Yes, I had options on the tie, but I decided to go grossly over the top due to the ****** shirt/suit combo, and the fact that I didn't have shoes.
Shoes: I don't have dress shoes anywhere near fitting me. I got the Lanvins in the mail from B&S, wanted a chance to wear them, didn't have anything better to wear (I could have worn beat up all-stars).

This is the first situation that merited MC in over 2 years. That said, I keep none in my wardrobe.

I've been pretty fed up with a lot of this thread, and this was icing on the cake. I'm not even sure why I post anymore.

All I have to say is, I liked the pic. I'm a big fan of the sneaks with suit. Check my avatar.

+1. All this **** from the past couple of days really reinforces the importance of making sure you've got the basics down pat AND THEN moving on to more outrageous stuff. Of course, most of us don't live in a world where we're thrifting Rick Owens leather jackets left and right, but still. Maybe take some of those flipping profits and buy some essentials in your size. Because, as a man living in America in 2012, sometimes you just need that basic, possibly boring outfit.

That being said, if my girlfriend sprung something like that on me at the last minute, I'd be kinda pissed.

That being said, I don't know what high school's like in the U.S., but if anyone wore a tux at my prom, they would have been laughed out of the room.

That being said, I wore a kilt to my prom.

I still cant believe people are talking about DMs attire after demanding he post pictures. It's not like he volunteered it. DM, stick around, it's really not that serious. I once wore red sweatpants and a yellow long sleeve shirt when I was going through my "hood" phase way back in HS and got called Ronald McDonald for the day. Still kept my friends, still on my path to success, and honestly a few days later you'll laugh about it with good friends. This really won't break you man lol, you wore sneakers with a suit. I mean, **** man, I was one of those late bloomers. I barely even talked to a ton of women until I almost graduated, so i can guarantee you that half the Kids there were probably more jealous of you going home with your girl that night than if your tie was funky. I can guarantee looking back in a decade or two at your pictures you'll find it awesome and hilarious, you were 17 having a kick ass time.

Until you do something like wear a brown suit or something with huge thick pin stripes to a Biglaw firm (my god see some of my fellow SAs), you really shouldnt worry man. Now go find me another suit in charcoal or navy blue so I don't have to be one of those guys. And some oxfords please and thanks brother :slayer:

He's mentioned before that he's a sophomore in college. I'm guessing it's his GF that is in HS.

The plot thickens!

Also, looking back at my post, that reads like one of the most hippie posts I've ever made with all the "mans". Finally I normally wouldn't do this but:

LOOKINGR8 ANSWER YOUR DAMN PMs BROSEF, I WANT THAT PAL.

You're in this pic? I hadn't noticed up until now and I've been seeing it for months. The other two gals are distracting I guess

Dude, if you aren't prepared to get your fit torn to shreds, don't post a pic. You put a pic up, you're subject to anything on the inter webs has to say. Good, bad, true, or untrue.

Actually I thought people were not that bad compared to rest of the forum. Whatever

Remember, a lot of us read this thread but don't poast everything that comes to mind. And others of us take a few weeks off here and there, for need of IRL stuff, ha! Don't suffer the loudmouths who are the posting majority but do not speak for the group--they're a small but vocal minority, in fact. Just take the grain of truth that might be in there and reconfigure for next time (unless you really really like the outfit, which should trump all virtual friends' opinions...because if you really like something you're comfortable and confident and no one is looking at your clothes). Remember also, some people are experts and can make good points in bad ways because they have the tact of a half-broken jigsaw. Spoo I'm sure can attest to that as he is a frequent subject of abuse, ha! But he puts his fits on the line so frequently...which is how one hones their schtick to perfection. Even though the h8rs will never see the perfection, ha

Oh, and pocket the $$$ from your excellent thrifting eye and tell yourself "Gee I 'm glad I don't have to wear this one. They don't pay me to LIKE it." HAters and jealous people hang out in your thrifting penumbra, man, get used to it. Their money spends the same as the fans (I'm a fan).

Finally, remember, it's a lot easier to say dumb stuff and behave badly when you're sitting behind a mostly anonymous avatar. I would guess that some of the stuff that made you feel bad might or might not have been said to your face. Or maybe it would have, but in an inoffensively joking way that's hard to transcribe in an online forum. Poasting a fit pic is an act of bravery some folks here just can't muster. I've done, maybe 3. Wish I had the brass to do more

i don't see a problem with his outfit

if he went out dressed in kiton and turnbull and asser it would isolate everyone his age.

he looks pretty laid back and casual works out

I just want to clear something here. I contacted Adrofan about two of the J.Press SCs he posted. Here was his reply:

Sorry, but I'm entirely unwilling to sell any items to you, even if they may be in your size range. Several other forum members I've spoken to have identified you as a known re-flipper: you buy items very cheaply from other generous forum members, and then resell them on ebay for significantly more. I refuse to support that kind of behavior, so I won't be selling you anything. Thanks for understanding.

I understand your point. Yes I sell on ebay and at one point everything I own will end up on ebay wether I purchase it from thrift stores, ebay, Marshalls, Outlet stores and yes SF. Having said that, I have an entirely different wardrobe than i did last year at this time and stuff are constantly moving. The other members can also confirm that I only purchase my size (42R,16.5, 11.5B), I just pass on 46n2 Isaia shirt because it's not my size. I made two deals on SF that ended on ebay within two weeks because they did not fit me. First, was a Kiton shirt, wore it twice but the neck was to tight, so I had to sold it. second was Canali shoes purchased from 42n6, same situation, actually I tried to wear it everyday while it was up on ebay to see if it would relax a bit, but had no luck. So there you have it, I only inquire & purchase my size on here. Will they end up on ebay? Eventually sometime in the future, as with everything clothing and accessories I own. That's the honest truth.

Now is that sooooooooooo bad?
