Looking for alterations tailor in MD/DC/NOVA area

This is my first post here though I have been a lurker for a while.

Would anyone recommend any good tailor in the MD/DC/NOVA (PG/Montgomery county is closest) area who does good alterations. My main needs are in sleeve length alteration but there are a couple of shirt that need the sides to be pulled in and if possible the armholes/sleeve width to be made smaller.

I know tailors are easily found in this area but the shirts I have are expensive (three are nice under-used bespoke ones that I picked up from eBay) and I want to make sure that there are no screw-ups. It would be an added bonus if the tailor makes suit alterations as well - I have a couple from sometime back that I need altered.

If you can also let me know the tailor's prices that would be very useful. Thanks.

First, use the search function. It works.

Second, I've had good success with London Tailor on Wisconsin in downtown Bethesda for simple alterations and even slimming the shoulders of a suit jacket, although that's not without risk and has had mixed success on two jackets.

For other complicated work I've used Field English Custom Tailor in north Georgetown. Will is very expensive for alterations, but does great work and is the best bespoke tailor in the DC area.

Best of luck.

Thanks for your note. I have gone through several searches of history but not found an answer to my satisfaction. I had seen Field's name previously but he does seem to be rather expensive and it seemed he may not take up something that was made bespoke elsewhere. I will look up your other suggestion.

I was also wondering if anyone had an opinion on Sofio's or Parkway?

i've had good experiences with stephen the tailor in foggy bottom (pretty much on the GWU campus). in fact, he altered the pants (waist taken in and legs tapered) and the shirt (waist taken in, armholes raised and sleeves narrowed) i'm wearing right now. he's altered a couple of suits and a number of shirts and pants for me by now. also gave it to me straight when i took him a jacket i bought off another member on here; just told me the thing would never fit and i'd be better off trying something else.

i'm a neophyte and too poor to think about london or fox or whatever those fancy people are, so pile of salt and all that. but i'm happy with the work stephen's done for me.

Field does great work and has no limitations on what they alter that I am aware of. Given the alterations you require, I would spend your money there. I have not found them to be crazy expensive.

Another recommendation on Fields. Very nice, approachable and capable. Prices are pricey, yes, but not out of this world pricey, imo/

I should also add that London Tailor in Bethesda is better if you speak Korean. If it's just the Mr. in the shop it can be hard to communicate. Mrs. is better with English and she translates with her husband. They are a very nice couple.

SK Cleaners in Rockville. Turkish guy in the middle of nowhere (walking distance from White Flint metro). Obviously is a dry cleaner but he's also a very good tailor.

Montgomery Tailor in Montgomery Mall I spent like $130 in hemming pants, no tapering, waist suppression, changing length of the sleeves.

Looking for a good low priced tailor that can shorten the length of a SC. I don't want to sink too much $ in this coat as I picked it up in a thrift shop. Dry cleaner tailors ok, too. Oh, and how much should this cost. I'm in Arlington.Thanks.

i go to Field's for all my good stuff but for lower end items i have found Matt's Tailoring in Falls Church very good. He's very nice, does quality work, and he's reasonably priced. He's particular good with making jackets fit close to the body, including side alterations, shoulder work, and narrowing billowy sleeves. He also shortens jackets. But be careful, the first modification he goes for is to take in the center seam of the back of the jacket, sometimes a bit too much. Overall I've been very happy with his work. The Foxx used to go there and recommended him.
