I had the opportunity of meeting Laura Nikkaido, a custom shirtmaker who specializes in men's shirts, in September, and to see samples of her work. She offers a rare service - full custom shirts made completely by a single person. She does not outsource at all, and all work is cut and sewn by her. She will travel to your home to measure you and allows one fitting. Of course her shirts have lots of terrific details - hand made silk button holes, crows feet hand shanked buttons, collar interfacing attached by hand, etc... She does not have any minimums. Turnaround time is about 10 days. I would certainly recommend her services to our NYC members. Laura is from France and grew up in Paris and New York City. She is a trained designer with a degree in Accessories Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Her work can be seen here: http://www.lauranikaidonyc.blogspot.com/

The samples that I saw were very nice.

I think that a bespoke shirt is the perfect introduction to custom. There is just enough choice for a customer to get what he wants without severely botching the job by asking for something... stupid.

+1 Good call. Methinks Vox is so busy pissing his pants over in the Mr. Sam thread that he's forgotten all about his search for a bespoke shirtmaker.

A shirt fully top-stitched by hand starting at $345? That sounds pretty astounding.

Is she a Koji Suzuki of shirts? I am tempted.
