Finally got this on my wrist after a few years watching and waiting. The dial and casework are outstanding and its a razor blade on the wrist at 5.3mm

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

My wrist is 7" exactly and I went for a 5 digit 14060 because I felt even the new 40mm Supercases looked too large on me. I also wanted the thinnest Sub possible and liked the aged tritium on this model (although it irks me ever so slightly that the hands are aging to a little lighter shade, not...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Thats hundreds of years of technology and changing society between them, not 40-50 years. A more appropriate analogy would be - is John Lobb no longer a shoemaker simply because Nike has more advanced technology in their shoes and the real, technical innovation has long since moved beyond a...

Disagree. I think its fair to say that, at that time, Rolex evolved their business model from producing the best 'Tool watches' to something else, but they certainly remain a watchmaker. By your definition, George Daniels wouldn't be a watchmaker because he was busy creating the Coaxial...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

I loved this watch when it debuted. If Omega had done a different treatment to the lume I would have been in, even had a deposit placed during Basel release. I love the size, the fit and the aluminum insert, it was so, so close to perfection but the lume was too uniform and too brown to my eyes...

I feel like TRF has a very different feel than any other watch forum online... probably why I've never taken to it. I like most of the other forums but TRF always seems off-putting to me

Are we requiring these to be new? If not, and 30k was my limit and it had to go to 3 watches, then I'd stick with 3 I already have that I bought pre-owned for under $30k in total. 1. Casual - AP Royal Oak Chrono 26300st Navy dial 2. Sport - Rolex 14060 Submariner 3. Dress - Cartier Tank...

Any advice on what brands make jumpers similar to BRUNELLO CUCINELLI or Loro piana?

As close as you're gonna get: https://ghiaiacashmere.com/pages/introducing-ghiaia https://citizensofhumanity.com/pages/style-guide-with-davide-baroncini Started by an Ex-cucinelli head of styling and ultra nice Italian guy using the same fabric mills as BC uses (not entirely sure who...

+1 while neither my GMT Master II nor my Sub are my favorite. If push came to shove and I was left with one watch it would be one of those two. By far the best 1-watch candidates in my stable.

Sold it to a young man who was quite a fan of it. I didn't need two tonneau-esq, salmon dial dress watches in the collection and the Roth just blows it out of the water in finishing and interest for me.

Mine are earlier mid size and wear exceptionally comfortably. I love them and they represent an amazing value, for the time being. To the value point, this came out a few days ago (and was boosted by Hodinkee today). My salmon is the exact same model and 1 serial apart from his. Only other one...

What I don't often share are the pieces that went out to bring in a new one! But I'd be happy to share. Thanks to COVID we're being asked to WFH so I'll be able to shoot under lighting finally. I do actually plan to return to WUS and add to my SOTC mega-thread with my updates but just haven't...

Yes indeed! They currently valued only slightly higher than their modern superlominva brethren, but not like a "vintage" example just yet so they seem to be still a good bargain. This one has some charming patina already forming but will be just as robust as any other modern speedy so I'm good...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Strangely enough, my '95 Sub has ever so slightly different Lume color between dial and hands. Neither dial nor hands glow any longer so they may have been serviced and replaced once upon a time in the 90s but maybe not. It is likely that the dial is lumed separately from the hand set, and...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

This is pretty much my take on the shortage. As Dino pointed out, Rolex makes 900k to a Million watches a year and I've heard that number referenced for quite a few years now but the surge in interest in watch collecting as a whole, and the hype culture perpetuated by Social Media, along with...

I've gotten that reaction quite a bit actually! Short answer is after I got the Breguet I never wore the Lange, love the Breguet so much more, that it didn't make sense to have such a nice watch sitting unworn. I've got almost too many dress watches to wear so I've been slowly parting with them...
