Saw Ralph Fiennes and Indira Varma on stage last night in Macbeth here in DC. They both simply chewed up the scenery and the play was amazing. Took me a bit to remember she was in the Star Wars Obi Wan show as well.

I never really thought about it before, but Skywalker is the only family name in the Star Wars universe that's like that. All the other names are like "Gurn Tlarbo" or whatever. One would think that at least someone else would be out there (Starkiller doesn't count).

Yeah, it's uninspiring, but it doesn't look genuinely sh!tty, like Ahsoka, Boba Fett, or Kenobi. Maybe it will surprise, like Andor, a show I was certain had no shot at being good and turned out to be fantastic.

Ahsoka wasn't terrible - it was thoroughly average (though the Rebels callbacks maybe pushed it up to good). Boba wa terrible. Kenobi was below average (considering how hyped everyone was for it)

IMO, there have been exactly two season of genuinely good Star Wars shows (discussing live action only, because I haven't watch all the animated stuff). Those are S1 of The Mandolorian and S1 of Andor. Everything else has been, at best, merely decent and/or forgettable.

I agree with that. A few well planned and executed shows and a bunch of hastily thrown-together money jobs and endless cartoon callbacks.

I'm cautiously optimistic for three reasons:

1. Its created/showrun by Leslyne Headland who did Netflix's Russian Doll, which I thought was really entertaining and original

2. Like Andor, it apparently did not use 'The Volume' virtual set. I've grown tired of them constantly leaning on virtual sets

3. Its the first dive in the High Republic/non-Skywalker era, so I like the idea that we're getting a story that's not necessarily tethered to the main arc which makes it possible to have real stakes

As long as we get a story, it'll be significantly better than most of the Star Wars properties to this point. Most of the shows have made story (and character development) a distant second priority to moving characters around to get to the set piece action scenes and character interactions (many of them Clone Wars references) that they built everything else around.

Or even simpler, a self-contained story. IMO, the overarching problem with SW (and Marvel) at this point is that you need so much background info to be able to meaningful process the new releases.

Take Asoka for example, you will have basically needed to know the overall story of The Clone Wars (133 episodes) and Rebels (75 episodes) to be able to understand even the basics of what was going on. I got the jist of it...but my wife was completely lost.
