I'm looking to pick up my first Barbour jacket, but I'm unsure which to go for. I was thinking either the Beaufort of Bedale, but I'm 5'5 so thinking these may be too long for me. Do people also recommend the original or the classic version?

I have the original and classic in both models. The Beaufort is my favourite personally but I'm 5ft 10 and it is longer than the Bedale. The Bedale has storm cuffs but no game pocket - unless you're going shooting this really doesn't matter. I personally think the Bedale looks a little boxy compared to the Beaufort but it may suit your height better. Best to try them on. In terms of the sylkoil v thornproof finish - this really doesn't make much difference after a few wears so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

This.

Beaufort might be a touch long, here's my mum in my Classic Beaufort and she's 5 ft 6. If that helps.

It looks cool on your mum but I think women tend to pull off the oversize look better than men.
yep, so I think the Bedale might be better in length for this instance.

Hi there. I have come across a A240 original 3/4 coat (from late 90's) which I find superb even though I am a rather small guy (it sits on my knees). It is rather difficult to find any information on this original version of the 3/4 coat.

I am certain that it is made with the classic sylkoil material (i have some other Barbour jackets hence can see the difference vs Thornproof).

The cotton of this A240 seems much sturdier (thicker) than the one of my Bedales/Beaufort, hence the question: someone would know if the A240 has been made with 8oz waxed cotton rather than the standard 6oz?

Thank you all. Great thread.
