After looking through about a dozen threads on this forum, I'm still not sure I've found the right t-shirt. Specifically, I'm looking for both henley tees and v-neck tees with a 'fitted' athletic cut, a neck that isn't too deep or wide, is comfortable, and maintains its shape. So far, these seem to be frequently recommended on StyleForum:
J. Crew - I just can't trust this brand anymore without actually trying their clothes on in-store. They're constantly changing their style and the quality of their clothes. The last few shirts I bought from them were completely worthless after just a few washes. Does anyone have recent experience with their tees?
Eddie Bauer - I went to their store today to try on their legend wash shirts. I was pretty excited to try them on after seeing and feeling them (great quality), but unfortunately they fit like a bag. I definitely wouldn't recommend them for those with an athletic build.
American Apparel - Their tri-blend crew shirts have received quite a few votes, but does anyone have experience with their newer tri-blend v-necks? Judging by the photos on their website, the necks look terrible, and the fit on those models isn't very convincing either.
Everlane - Apparently these are hit or miss. Some people love them, some hate them, and others say it really depends on the batch.
Uniqlo - These seem to be very popular on SF, but I have to wonder how well they keep their shape without any polyester and/or spandex in them? Will they stretch without getting ruined?
Banana Republic - I tried on their stretch pima cotton crew necks today. They fit pretty well and were very comfortable, but the problem is they don't come in v-necks, and there are only three colors available (black, white, charcoal). Additionally, a lot of reviewers are claiming the neck falls apart after a few washes.
A&F - Anyone have experience with their "muscle fit" v-necks? I've seen these mentioned twice on SF.
Express - Their stretch cotton v-necks are actually pretty decent shirts, especially for the price. Good fit, good neck, and plenty of colors to choose from. My main complaint is that there's a bit too much spandex in them (as opposed to the BR stretch cotton shirts which feel much better), and they don't have a high-quality appearance to them (like the Eddie Bauer shirts do).
Any other options I should explore? Should I order from AA, Uniqlo, or A&F? Or should I stick with Express and be glad I found something that works? Right now I'm primarily looking for v-necks, but if that same brand offered high-quality henley tees as well, that'd be a bonus.
