Inspired by other threaks I dug out some old Allen movies (I have two that I know of). I rewatched Manhattan, which remains my favorite. Hannah and Her Sisters is close. I put both ahead of Annie Hall, though I like the latter.

I stopped seing his new movies a long time ago. Mostly this thread is for you to tell me which ones to rent. Have there been any good ones since the mid-'90s, when I lost interest? Deconstructing Harry is supposed to be good, so I hear.

Deconstructing Harry is quite good. And some of his later movies, especially the ones he doesn't appear in such as Match Point are very good as well.

I saw Annie Hall a couple of weeks ago and I don't get the hype. Good movie, but best picture?

When that beat Star Wars, I was outraged. I was also eight years old.

I also agree that Match Point was good. I loved the ending, because it wasn't your usual Hollywood ending.

Dude, I just recently saw Annie Hall. I have Star Wars and I'll watch it some day. Just doesn't really peak my interest.

^^^ Seen both of those. I thought Interiors was sort of dull, honestly.

It wasn't a Hollywood film. It was internationally financed and shot in England.

I think Manhattan is the best, but I've only seen four or five. One semester in architecture school, we had a project for a high rise in New York, and the teacher said his lone metric for grading our work was how worthy it was of a frame in Manhattan's opening title sequence and monologue.

Have you seen Mighty Aphrodite, Manton?

Nowhere near the standard of his best, but it's still pretty entertaining. Mira Sorvino is very good as the tart with a heart.

Oh, and Manhattan Murder Mystery is also fairly good if you haven't seen it.

The problem with Woody Allen's later work is none of it matches the quality of the stuff he produced between 1969-1989
