More often I see waistcoats that are too short and/or worn with pants that are low rise, so that there's lots of shirt showing between waistcoat and trousers, which destroys the look IMHO. For instance:

(sorry for pimping my own tumblr, but this picture has over 3,000 notes on it, so presumably many people like it, yet everything is clearly ill-fitting)

I like your tumblr bro, cheers for the follow :)

Maybe they're all just passing on the hate? :)

Seriously though, the short waistcoat/low rise trouser/belt combination is pretty prevalent these days, you're right. I don't like it either. But at least it's a more deliberate choice to viewers (being in line with modern trends) than a loose waistcoat. That has the function of making it more acceptable to others today, even if it will date much more harshly than a loose waistcoat over time. Simple solution: just get a waistcoat that fits reasonably correctly. :)

I hate this obsession with low trousers, at my school we get to wear suits for 6th form and so many people were short suits that literally stop at their waist, it looks crap. I blame Topman, they sell "fashionable" suits and this means that people thing that it is right nowadays to wear such short jackets that just look terrible....

I see this thread has been revived. I've recently bought a few Polo three piece suits that all have the same fit but different styles. One's getting the pants cuffed but maybe I'll take pics when I get it.

Here's one of them I wore:

3PS and DBs are preferences and it takes some level of comfort. It's like LWB for shoes. Some poeple like them and some don't.

These people are wrong and their opinion should not be taken seriously in any discussion ever again.

Are you seriously equating a vest with a pocket square?

you know, to the public, they're both about as standout as the other (assuming it's not just a tv fold white linen pocket square). A big display of pocket square on a two piece or sport coat is very dandy/standout to people much like a three piece.

I think most guys are intimidated by wearing them. It's a classic that not every body type can wear.

I already own several three piece suits and the next suit I purchase will definitely be a three piece.

Its hard to believe that this discussion has gone on for eight pages long.
