Is there any reason not to use your laptop as a box type device? Just stream Netflix or whatever to your laptop and then attach it to you TV?

I am thinking of doing exactly that. I hope it works seamlessly like that and I don't have to purchase some Netflix compatible Blu-Ray player or some other box.

Panasonic P50V10 that I am considering has an actual old fashioned 15-pin monitor socket. So the whole thing should be plug and play.

You can definetly do this. I did it in the past. My file server is connected to the TV in my bedroom but I still use a popcorn hour. Image quality isn't as good and neither is the sound. I like using the remote in bed rather then a mouse.

Thats what she said!
