I hate when the prefix "pre-" is unnecessarily attached to a word to create a new word that makes no sense.

"Pre-boarding" is the best example I can think of. There's no such thing as "pre-boarding" a plane - it's just boarding, it's just that some people get to do it before others. "Pre-approved" and "pre-qualified" are other examples where the use of "pre" is entirely unnecessary

I'm surprised none of my pet peeves is mentioned:

Impacted (unless they are speaking of a wisdom tooth or constipation) or any other variation of impact that has nothing to do with a collision.

Using a reflexive case pronoun as the object of a proposition or verb (e.g. - "You must notify Ms. White or myself")

Using a subjective case pronoun as an object (e.g. - "It's the best possible course of action for Bill and I")

Plus, I agree about the misuse of "less" vs "fewer". This may not be correct, but I have always thought of less as singular and fewer as plural.

This is a great thread. English is getting the crap kicked out of it by our English-speaking society.
