Made 42k at a genetics centre doing bioinformatic cancer research. I am really passionate about the topic but found it hard to get by on that salary. Plus, science is really hierarchical and I don't see myself getting additional degrees.

Now I am starting to apply and interview for tech jobs. Any tips on that? Looks like there are a few programmers in this thread.

First job: 37k ~ stayed for 2 years

Second job: started @ 72k, ended at 85k ~ stayed for 18 months

Third job: {consulting} 200k ~ did it for less than a year (was exhausted from the weekly travel)

Fourth job; {consulting but from home} 140k with a multi-year contract.

My job is not as intellectually stimulating as I hoped for so I'll stay around until I notice the industry starts to sink, then I'll make the move to something a little more fulfilling. I want more creativite license and open frameworks.

The web is where I intend to transition when I feel I have something to offer.

$4.35 an hour. Only part time (35 hours a week). No medical but did get a 15% employee discount.

About ten years ago, 40K. The medical and dental insurance was a nice plus at the time. I felt fortunate, considering I was a history major but moved into the business arena (marketing research, which has some parallels).

In my first salaried position right now. $65K (plus a modest bonus) in private practice at a mid-sized but undistinguished law firm in a major market. It wouldn't be bad if I weren't burdened by student loans. Looking to make a move in the near future.

36k plus 2k for clothing in 2008 in Canada.

Not much in the way of benefits.

CA firm (now cpa I guess) that focused on advisory, tax and did audit for non public entities.

At that time, I remember the big 4 paying 33k for the same entry level position. Sad to say that the starting salaries are around the 33k mark 6 years later.
