matt is the only one i know on that list, and we have different tastes in certain items.
i can presume that the buyers never got to see the items first hand before purchasing?
and what is your return policy?

and doc, if there can be another 'standard' to judge these shoes, should there be another standard to judge certain suits/coats?

no the names mean "nothing". why should they?

after all this hate, i gifted the shoe to SG today. he'll wear them with pride.

ps: i have one left to give after wb refused. i know, its cheap, but if you want. SG's was from february. so in real numbers we have two... to give.

OP, I would be interested if you would polish the other shoe with black polish, and take a picture of the comparison. Maybe wear them around like that, see if anyone notices.

If someone posted a traditional, handmade Tracht, I wouldn't hold it to the same standards as a modern Zegna suit, no. These things are relative. If I did not want rustic shoes from a small European shoemaking operation, I would not buy rustic shoes from a small European shoemaking operation.

Either you see the charm in this type of thing or you don't. Personally, I don't understand the forum fetish for handwork in RTW shirts. Some folks pay through the nose for it, just because it's charming, or artisinal, or how it used to be done, or something. It's not as neat and clean as a machine stitched shirt, and your collar is more likely to fall off, but hey, it's much more romantic. I don't get it, but I don't begrudge those who like it.

indeed these things are relative, but then to ensure relativity one has to compare like for like, and not a suit vs traditional costume..
more liek a suit made by x (where x is the flavour of the moment) vs one made by say.. a small outfit in china or another underdeveloped country.

Doc was essentially trying to defend you, stating that some people like apples instead of oranges for various personal and subjective reasons. You come back with "my shoes are not apples, they are oranges! maybe your shoes are apples!"

I hope this is due to a language barrier and not an example of how tactless you are.

I suppose what I'm arguing is that this is a form of traditional costume. I would not buy paprika if I didn't want paprika flavor. That's its charm, as I see it.

I recently visited with a Mennonite cobbler. His work is rustic, but that doesn't make it bad work. I hoped he still made shoes by hand, but he doesn't. I didn't expect such shoes would look like EGs. I would have been disappointed if they did.

We talk a lot about preserving how things were done in the past, but are we only interested in that which serves the modern RTW aesthetic? Does anyone think the average person in 1896 was wearing shoes that looked like modern Lobbs?

I'd like to think we care about traditional manufacturing for its own value, not just because it makes for nice advertising copy.

I'm not getting involved in passing judgement on this current Paprikagate but I can confirm the fact Fritzl is a real passionate individual who promotes the Hungarian shoemaking industry with all his heart and soul.

I do not believe money and commercial profit are behind his Paprika operation..
He just wants to promote the artisans he loves...

He always had been very vocal on the subject of mittle Europa's shoe making industry..

I do the same with Anthony Delos ...I like the guy and I love his shoes and there is nothing sinister behind my endorsement..
