These are fast and fun.

I had a 2006 E55. Best engine ever. Worst car ever. Cheap interior bits, awful electronics (gremlins everywhere), no handling whatsoever (coming from a 540). But low-end torque like a dirt bike made it tons of fun in a straight line and contributed to lots of tickets. Maybe the E63 is better (Daimler having shed Chrysler) but I will never buy another MB.

Having owned a number of BMWs over the years (old M3, several 540's, 2006 X5 4.8i(essentially the M version)), as well as the MB E55, a couple Lexus, etc -- my used Audi S8 is without a doubt the best luxury sports sedan I have owned or driven, followed by the 2003 540 with M sport package (not the M5).

I share your view of MB as I've had my share of gremlins on multiple cars, great engines though. BMW's have served me well, too. I've never owned an Audi but I've been thinking about them recently. I'm especially interested in seeing the new A8 when it arrives. A V10 S8 would be nice.

I looked hard at the A8 and it was insufficiently sporty - nice car but didn't handle well. The S8 fixes that but you won't see a new model S8 for a number of years. I also looked hard at the S6 with the same Lamborghini V10 as the S8 but I really didn't like it - didn't seem as nimble or fast as the larger S8 (weird but true). Also, I think the Audi's are overpriced as new cars but they depreciate fast so I recommend used for an excellent deal (while I find this true for all makes, it is particularly true for Audi)

So for the combination of good looks, comfort, and price I'm going to grab a lowest mileage I can find GT and put a little money into it with some wheels and a nice sound system.

I drove one of these -- punchy, if a little crude.

i would just get a corolla for my next car. something that would just effiicently take me back and forth from work which is a whopping 30 miles away so in hopes that i stay at this work for awhile i want something that won't give me any headaches and just take me to work and back. i dont need any frills or anything like performance or anything like that , just good gas mileage, reliability, a radio, and air conditioning.

I don't think I have ever had more fun with a car than with my wife's VW R32. It is a wolf in sheeps clothing. And at $35K you can save money and beat most things on the road.

Instead, I now drive a Mini Cooper Clubman S until the CST-V Coupe comes out this summer. Then the cooper goes to my girl and I'm back in the Saddle.

Have to admit though, the Clubman is a hoot to drive and a real looker too.

O yeaaa I forgot about the CTS-V coupe. I might just wait for that. It's going to be sick.
