Were older topcoats made with this sort of design/color?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to update my outerwear. I just picked up a very nice, full-length Burberry's topcoat on eBay for dirt cheap (See my recent post on it here: https://www.styleforum.net/threads/...the-thunderdome.480919/page-5109#post-9097295).

I am still looking for a single breasted, gray twill, 100% wool/wool cashmere blend, 3/4 length topcoat that I can wear in formal and causal settings. I've been combing through online auction sites and am beginning to check out thrift stores in NYC (but it seems like the pickings are slim for men's wear, right?). I am beginning to think that grey twill topcoats were simply not common in the past, which is why I am having a hard time finding one. I've posted a picture of a nice Club Monaco car coat that comes close to what I'm looking for. If any of you have an idea of how to hone in my search (designers, shops, whatever), I'd appreciate it!

Mike

Depends what you mean by "older". If you mean in days gone by, no. Gentlemen who wore overcoats would never have been seen in such things.

They did come into favour rather later and so in this instance, yes. These would be 'older' by now.
