Hey. My sister brought me back some sweet stuff from Japan. One of them is a pair of jeans. Unfortunately she bought a pair with a significant flare. I'm going to need to hem them by 2 inches. I also don't want it too flared. I know the hem will take care of it somewhat but I want it to come out the way I want (why shouldn't I?

A few questions:

1) If I ask to keep the original hem, will/can the tailor cut hem to fit the narrower leg opening? Or will it have to be the original width of the hem (not desirable)?

2) Is there a simple procedure for lessening the flare or turning it into a straight leg? What does this entail and is it difficult/costly?

I don't want to ruin the jeans so I'm comfortable just getting them hemmed and keeping it a little flared. But if I could get them the way I want to, that'd be awesome. Please help! Merry Xmas!

1. yes, a tailor can cut the original hem to size, but results will vary. i've had my alterations guy do this twice - the first one turned out well, the second not so well. if the jeans are really dark/no wash, then you might as well just not keep the original hems; the only reason to keep them would be to keep the fading/chain stitch on them.

2. yes, it's a simple procedure to turn a bootcut into a straightleg. it'll be around $20-$30.

hope this helped! and merry xmas!
